Looking for tips for a wellness weekend or a holiday to a thermal spa in Hungary? Check out our guide to the best spas in Hungary, including a map and practical information.
Hungary doesn’t have the mountains, the sea or the ancient monuments for which tourists from all over the world flock like Italy.
Yet it is absolutely unique thanks to its thermal springs, of which there are more than 1,000. The waters of the Hungarian thermal springs are rich in minerals. They are often used for therapeutic purposes, including the treatment of rheumatic diseases, arthritis and skin diseases, as well as for relaxation and wellness.

Győr is a lively city in the northwest of Hungary that is easily accessible from the Czech Republic. It is one of the closest thermal spas in Hungary.
In the past it was one of the most popular spas, after the reconstruction it is worse. The reconstruction is still not finished in some places, so all pools are not accessible. Still, full admission is charged, which discourages many visitors.
There are also long queues to get in, but on the other hand, the spa has been renovated and everyone wants to come here. Hopefully everything will be fine-tuned in the future.
If you want to make the most of the Győr Thermal Baths, visit them in the summer season, when they are open, including the outdoor areas and the water park. Preferably during the week and early in the morning when the queues are smallest.
The spa includes indoor pools and outdoor pools with water slides and water features suitable for all ages. For children, there is an amusement park that looks like something out of a fairy tale, a playground and plenty of activities.
